CURRICULUM AT A GLANCE
PEDAGOGICAL INTEGRATION OF MOODLE
Presenters: Moustapha Diack & Paula Thornhill
Participants in this workshop will learn how to build a course. Topics covered include: getting around in Moodle, deciding on a course format, customizing the course page, and adding resources and activities (with a view toward learning what is available and brainstorming possible uses). This workshop assumes that participants have had only minimal prior Moodle experience. We will:
- Present an overview of Moodle as a virtual learning environment and tour the Moodle interface; Discuss the implications of using an Open Source CMS application in your institution
- Setup courses – each participant will have their own course to experiment with and will enroll in other's courses as students
- Customize the Weekly/Module outline to display course components using your syllabus as a template
- Course Resources – uploading files and presenting as resources within the course outline
- Assignments – participants will create an assignment exercise and write directive instructions about how to complete the work
- Discussion forum – create a forum and 'seed' with an appropriate question. Add clear instructions about what postings and replies are required.
- Add a dialogue or chat activity to receive comments from your 'students'
Having created a week's worth of courses, participants will log in as students to each other's courses and engage in the various activities. Using the chat or dialogue activity, participants will offer comments directly to the course creator about the course design.
